On safari being comfortable is essential and dress is informal. While it isn't necessary to dress in safari colors unless you are on a walking safari, the traditional safari colours are very good at hiding dust and dirt!  We have found that loose fitting clothing in layers works best. It tends to be cool in the mornings, warm during the day and cool again in the evenings.
